10th Anniversary Cruise on the Caribbean Princess
Destinations: Grand Turk, San Juan, and St Thomas
May 24-June 2, 2009

Well everyone, we just got back from a very relaxing 9 day cruise on the Caribbean Princess. It was really nice to be able to get away for a little while and forget about our troubles.

The Caribbean Princess was a nice ship, and had a really nice interior since it was just revamped in Jan 2009 during drydock, so it felt almost like a new ship- with 1 exception- the service. We were on the Ruby Princess in Nov 2008 for its inaugural sailing and the service was night and day between the 2 ships. We did not let this get us down, as we were away from work, and still enjoyed ourselves very much.

Our first stop on the cruise was Grand Turk where we took the ship's excursion for "Ultimate Snorkeling". Ultimate it was! We saw a 2.5 lb lobster and an adult lionfish! Made me really sorry we didn't bring an underwater camera with us! The pictures we could have had! Oh well, you know what they say about hindsight!

Our next stop was San Juan, Puerto Rico. We again decided to do the ship's tour, but this time it was to the Old San Juan and the Rum Distillery! Yo Ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me! Just kidding. We walked around the distillery, smelled some rum, figured out how they made it, had a couple of drinks, bought some really good rum, and off to the Fort in Old San Juan we went!

St Thomas was our 3rd stop, and what a blast we had. We decided to take a private tour and very glad we did. We went on the Island Girl, which is a sailboat owned privately, and they take a max of 6 people onboard. They only had 1 more couple on board besides us, and they were a lot of fun. We figured we would be snorkeling, but didn't realize we would be power snorkeling! They had the little scooters for us to use. It was so cool to just chug around in the water with those things. Unfortunately, both Shane and I got horrible sunburn, but what a day it was!

Our last stop was supposed to be Bermuda, which we were both very much looking forward to, but due to high winds and bad weather, they decided to skip the port. So instead we had another day at sea which made a total of 5. Since they didn't do much onboard in regards to entertainment, this wasn't a good thing for us.

All in all it was a great time, but not sure I will ever get Shane on another one until Alaska. Hope that one changes his mind since I typically like cruising!

Friends we made on the trip
Judy (to the right) and Bob (below) sat next to us at dinner. The couple that sat on the other side ended up quarantined for the week, so we only saw them twice.
Andy and Deb (immediately below) were the other couple to join us on the sail. Lauren (2nd below) was helping Mike (to the right) the owner with the sailing and the snorkeling portion. Andy and I got a photo together too.
Our Dinner Servers- Jimmy and Michael
Jimmy (to the right) and Michael (to the left) were the highlight of our trip. They were absolutely fantastic.
We were actually sorry we skipped the dining room on our anniversary since the Crown Grill wasn't up to par. They made up for it though!

The bat is a symbol of prosperity, health, and family to the Bacardi label.
To the right is the bar display for the freebie drinks, and at the fort we saw the 3 flags. 1 is for US, 1 is for Puerto Rico, and the 3rd is the Spanish Military Flag.
While we were in the tunnels of the fort, some great shadows were given off as we were going through. Can you tell who is who?

To the left is an artsy photo from the port, to the right is a picture of the Marriott Frenchman's Cove vacation club resort. We are hoping someday to be able to visit there as St Thomas was beautiful.
To the right is another artsy photo, but this time had a captive subject. The iguanas were all over the rocky beach area in front of the port. Most tourists apparently feed them, so they are very friendly.

Formal Night photos
On the Caribbean night, which was French and Mediterranean night in the dining room, we decided to order the Frog's Legs and give them a try. We were not crazy about them because of how they were prepared, but they did taste kinda like chicken.
Our Anniversary evening at the Crown Grill. Scary part was, the best part was the dessert. although the scalloped potatoes were pretty yummy too
Just a nice photo of the two of us from Caribbean night
