Inaugural Caribbean Cruise
Ruby Princess
Nov 8-15, 2008
Well, Mom at one point asked us if we wanted to go on a cruise with her, and we finally agreed. We tried out the inaugural cruise on the Ruby Princess. We went with Mom, Dad, Aunt Mary Ann, and Aunt Nancy. What an amazing experience. I had a great time, but Shane still doesn't grasp the concept of cruising. He would rather go to one place for a week rather than 3 or 4 places for a couple of hours. But he did agree to go on an Alaskan cruisetour for our 10th anniversary, so maybe I will change him yet!
The Ruby was a beautiful ship, and went to some nice places. It was scheduled to stop in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, then Princess Cays, but the final hurricane of the season decided to step in and mess things up for us. We still went to all the ports, but switched the order to Cozumel first. Well the other thing that kind of messed things up was the fact that whatever lovely infection that was roaming around my family for weeks before the cruise, hit us during the cruise. We were coughing, sneezing, and blowing our noses constantly, so I am sure that affected our enjoyment of the cruise. It made us cancel all of our dives that we had planned, which was one of the reasons we went on the cruise to begin with. Shane however, did get to go to Tulum which he has always wanted to do, thankfully, he went by himself and let me off the hook since I wasn't feeling wonderful that day.
In Grand Cayman, we tried the Atlantis submarine. It was nice since we were unable to go diving that we still got under the water and we able to see a lot of cool things. I would put some of the pics on here, but they didn't turn out well.
In Ocho Rios we really only wandered around and almost bought an incredibly expensive ring. Thankfully I came to my senses, but not before Shane got a free beer out of the deal.
Princess Cays was a lot of fun. We brought our snorkel gear and got to snorkel around the beach area and it was really nice. It was really nice to be able to get off the ship and into the water.
Another fun thing we ladies did was we got a thermal suites membership for the week. This is a really nice feature on Princess Ships. They are warmed stone beds that you can lay on and relax, and it also has a steam room, an aromatherapy steam bath, and a sauna. Considering I was battling illness all week, it was really nice to go in there and use the steam rooms. I can't tell you how many times I nearly fell asleep on those stone beds. I might have to convince Shane we need to do this in May on our Alaska cruise.
I just can't believe our next trip is 5 months away. :(
